Shopping for Used Home Gyms – Things to Consider and a few
to Avoid
If your fitness goals include strength training, a home gym can give you a good
beginning workout. Many people prefer working out in the convenience of their
homes due to hectic schedules and family commitments.
Used home gyms are a good way to
get gym equipment inexpensively if money is an issue. Knowing what to look for
in a used gym is an important first step. Read as much as you can on the
subject, or find a knowledgeable friend to go shopping with you.
Be careful when shopping for inexpensive home gyms. Find out why the price is so
low. Some used equipment may be damaged, so you need to know what you are
looking at. Try out any used gym before purchasing to be sure it is in good
working order. Avoid the cheapest model in the department stores; these gyms are
cheap for a reason. They are most often made with inferior, inexpensive user
parts. Look at the warranty. Most cheap gyms come with short warranty terms.
Sometimes you can find a great home gym inexpensively in the classifieds or at a
yard sale. Many of these gyms have hardly, if ever, been used. They are normally
in good working condition, but try them out anyway. Bring along a measuring tape
to make sure the gym will fit in the space you have available. Most home gyms
take up about twenty five square feet of space.
If buying a used gym from a dealer, make sure the dealer is reputable. The best
used gyms are factory refurbished. When shopping for refurbished home gyms, ask
about the process used. Specifically ask which components were replaced. Factory
refurbished home gyms are completely taken apart and worn parts are replaced.
You end up with a like new equipment at an inexpensive price.
