Spinning Exercise Bikes – Popular For Group Workouts

Spinning first became popular in the 1990s and quickly became one of the most popular exercise classes in the gym. Spinning exercise bikes feel very much like an outdoor bicycle when riding. These bikes are stationary and don’t have the computerized workout programs and extras that many of the best gym bikes have. Classes consist of several spinning bicycles grouped together facing the exercise bike ridden by the instructor.

Spinning classes are the best bicycle exercises for getting in shape. Biking in a group increases your motivation and keeps the ride interesting. Throughout a spinning exercise class, your instructor will guide you through the work out, telling you when to adjust the speed or resistance on the exercise bike. The addition of resistance simulates riding up and down hills. Throughout the exercises, the class imagines riding outdoors at the suggestion of the instructor.

Spinning exercises begin with stretching. You are guided through stretching exercises for all the major muscle groups. Additional stretching is done to prepare the hamstrings and quads for the workout. If you are a beginner, a spin biking class will work best for you. Don’t expect to keep up with the rest of the class on your first time exercising. Start out with less resistance on the bicycle and gradually add more as you become more fit. You will soon see the results you want.

The bikes used in spinning have a large flywheel. The bicycles used look like old fashioned bicycles. The large flywheel allows enough momentum for you to spin the pedals. Seats on these bikes need to be fully adjustable, both up and down as well as front to back. This allows for the best form when exercising. Handle bars should be adjustable as well. The handle bars on this type of bike are very sturdy, enabling the bars to hold weight for upper body portions of the workout.
