Factory Refurbished Treadmill – A Wise Investment?

 When purchasing a treadmill for your home gym, we might typically investigate two options – brand new, or reconditioned. While both of these have their advantages and disadvantages, they are not the only options to consider, and if you are looking for a good deal, you might also explore the possibility of buying a factory refurbished treadmill.

We must be careful of the terminology when we are buying reconditioned home treadmills – there are a couple of distinctions that can mean very different things. A ‘remanufactured’ treadmill is typically one that was over two years old and has been stripped down to basics, checked for worn out parts, and rebuilt with replacements if necessary. A ‘refurbished’ home treadmill is one that has had less work done – it is typically less than two years old, and has not been broken down completely, but it has been checked for broken parts. The most important distinction, however, is between a ‘refurbished’ and a ‘factory refurbished’ item – only the later has been examined by the original manufacturer of the treadmill, and refitted with the manufacturer’s parts.

So what are the advantages in purchasing a treadmill for your home gym that has undergone a complete refurbishing or reconditioning process at the factory? The price will be considerably lower than the same item brand new, but, unlike a used item, it will still have the manufacturer’s warranty. This might be the same as the original warranty, or be slightly reduced, but bear in mind that newer parts will have replaced some of the older parts of these treadmills. While a ‘refurbished’ model might not have undergone such extensive work as a ‘remanufactured’ or reconditioned item, the treadmill should itself be less than two years old, and has been checked thoroughly by the manufacturer. So if you are looking for home treadmills that are not necessarily fresh off the assembly line but are in excellent working order with a warranty from the manufacturer, factory refurbished home treadmills might be the way to go.
